As we approach another Independence Day, we’d like to take a moment to celebrate the Independent Energy movement happening on a local and national scale.
When Hot Purple Energy opened its doors over 10 years ago, we were on a mission to help our local community make the shift to cleaner energy. Today, we are happy to share that we continue to carry on that mission thanks to all our clients who have made the choice to produce their own power. By being leaders and putting their investment where the future is, and by doing what is right, these individuals are paving the way towards an America powered on Clean Independent Energy.
Despite the rise of utility prices and the fight against Net Energy Metering, the solar industry has stood its ground. When SCE made new solar customers switch to Time-of-Use billing, we added batteries to their energy solutions which only pushed our clients to become that much more independent with the ability to store their power for later use. When AB 1139 threatened California’s rooftop solar market, we showed up to fight back. Solar customers, solar professionals, and environmental organizations across the state came together to call in to the Committee Hearing, to email their state representatives, and showed up to Sacramento at the Capitol’s steps to make their voice heard and we succeeded. AB 1139 failed to receive enough votes in the California State Assembly earlier this month thanks to the unwavering support of the solar industry. We, as an industry—as a movement, are leaving our mark on this country while simultaneously reducing our footprint and that, is revolutionary.
To reiterate what we said 10 years ago, this is not the Continental Congress declaring US independence from England, but it is a monumental shift in the power dynamic (pun intended). Nor is the right to produce your own electricity in the Constitution but should be celebrated as if it was. This power to power ensures you and your property practical and financial independence while taking the burden off the planet and keeping cash in your pocket and OUR neighborhoods. It really is power to the people.
With that said, we wish you a Happy Independence Day and look forward to another decade of helping our friends & neighbors become energy independent.
