By now, many homeowners with SunPower systems have been notified that SunPower will no longer provide support through the mySunPower app, web portal, or 1-800 number. While SunPower will no longer be a resource for your equipment or leases, you’re not alone. HPE remains your primary contact for any questions or issues regarding your system’s performance. SunPower Financial’s partners will continue managing all leasing inquiries, which can be addressed through the current payment portal or by calling (883) 514-1858. It’s important to note that access to monitoring data remains unaffected at this time.
What happens to my Warranty?
SunPower has been actively working on clarifying the details of their equipment warranties. They are expanding their resources and will provide updates as more information becomes available. Here’s what we know so far:
SunPower started as a solar panel manufacturer and later grew into managing a network of dealerships, offering financing, sales training, and support to its dealers. In 2020, SunPower transferred complete ownership of the manufacturing to their cell manufacturing partner, Maxeon, who they’ve always had a close relationship with. Maxeon has agreed to honor the 25-year panel warranties for systems that have SunPower panels produced by Maxeon (which is 99% of them). To ensure your system is covered for the remainder of the original warranty period, you must register your system with Maxeon by December 31, 2024, at https://maxeon.com/us/sunpower-warranty. If there is a defective panel covered by warranty, it will be much easier for us to submit the warranty claim on your behalf if you’ve registered your system before the end of the year at the website above.
For those who may not know, SunPower generally purchased inverters from other manufacturers and re-branded them, and SunPower has confirmed that many of the original manufacturers of these components will honor the underlying product warranties.
