Maximizing Solar Savings under NEM 3.0

SCE- Edison-logo-yellow-rect

Good news for NEM 3.0 customers! During September, certain peak hours will offer export values exceeding $3.00 per kWh. As you may know, the NEM 3.0 rate plan significantly reduced the value of exported kWhs by removing the one-to-one compensation available under NEM 1.0/2.0. Instead, homeowners under NEM 3.0 are compensated based on wholesale energy prices and grid demand. By strategically exporting excess energy during high-demand periods, you can maximize your savings.

SCE 2024 Weekday Export Rates

To fully capitalize on the NEM 3.0 rate structure during the month of September, homeowners should consider the following system settings:

  • Backup Reserve: Lower your back-up reserve to no lower than 10% to maximize the amount of energy available for export.
  • Operational Mode: Configure your system to operate in Time-Based Control mode. This ensures that energy is stored and used during off-peak hours, and exported when demand (and compensation) is highest.

Export to Grid: Ensure your system is set up to export energy to the grid if you have the necessary permissions. This is where most of the financial benefits will be realized, especially during peak periods
