Hot Purple Energy is excited to host its sixth annual Architectural Bike Tour during Modernism Week. This year we are celebrating famed local architect William Krisel by starting the tour on the newly-minted William Krisel Way, adjacent to the Ocotillo Lodge and will then head south through the neighborhoods of Twin Palms, Indian Canyons, Kings Point, and Canyon View Estates. The tour is planned as a group event, however maps will be available and the route is clearly marked to allow riders the opportunity to explore on their own, if they wish. The route is approximately 7 miles, with an optional 3 mile loop.

The route is relatively flat and can be done on both a cruiser or road bike.

Just a friendly reminder that unfortunately we do not provide bikes. Please bring your own bike, or contact Bike Wheel Tours about renting one from them at the start of the route; please contact them at with inquiries and to make a reservation.

There will be a designated water stop along the route at the Krisel Butterfly House located in the Indian Canyons neighborhood. After the tour, join your fellow riders for a post-ride party at Appetito Cal-Italian Bar and Eatery (1700 S. Camino Real).

Please RSVP for this event by e-mailing with your name and the number in your party, so that we can be sure to have enough of our signature free tour t-shirts on hand.

Hot Purple Energy is excited to be hosting a cocktail hour in celebration of William Krisel at a local Palm Springs Krisel home. Guest speaker Robert Imber -Architectural Historian, Author, Educator and Humanitarian- will be giving a short speech on mid-century Architecture and  specifically, on William Krisel. Robert will be available to answer questions afterwards and/or throughout the evening. Robert was honored last year by the Palm Springs Walk of Stars for his contribution to the Modernism Week community and continues to take part in the Palm Springs Modern Committee.

Robert has been a resident of Palm Springs for over fifteen years and has advocated for Architectural Preservation for a long time. To learn more about his achievements, visit Modernism Weekly.

Hot Purple Energy (HPE) is pleased to host a free bike ride as part of the Modernism Week Fall Preview 2014.

The ride will start at Ernest Coffee with a festive check in and brief lecture about the recently renovated Ernest Coffee and old “Sunset Towers” apartment building. From there we will offer a leisurely group tour of the Old Las Palmas and Vista Las Palmas neighborhoods, with stops to view the interiors of a couple of mid-century houses as a part of the group tour.

The route and group tours will take about 1.5 hours and we encourage riders to explore the neighborhoods on their own. A map will be provided and the route will be marked so that participants may enjoy the route at their own pace if they so choose. The ride will then return to the starting point where our friends at the newly completed Bootlegger Tiki will be open and serving special food and beverages for riders.

Bring your own bike or rent one at the start of the tour (contact Hot Purple Energy at for more information about rentals).

As we head into full summer mode here at HPE, and believe us, with over 180 degree heat on the roofs around here, we have a real summer mode, its important for us to look back on the past 2011-2012 season and highlight some of the great events we were lucky enough to be a part of. Being in the middle of the renewable energy space in the Coachella Valley is something we are very proud of, but being involved with such great causes and community it really what it is all about.
